DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): The United Naga Democratic Party of Nagaland (UNDP) today expressed concern at the present political situation in the state and said that “for the past 14 years the DAN government has neglected all the developments and even denied the very basic needs of its people and the disease of corruption has contaminated and infected all the way to its core foundation.”
A press note from the UNDP President, Hotongse Sangtam alleged that all the departments are neglected, government constructions remain at a standstill, the entire road condition within the state is worse than river beds, and now the present DAN government is “playing the game of who is to blame.”
The UNDP President opined that it seems as though the state of Nagaland does not have a government. “The central government of India gives facilities and financial grant to the state Nagaland in terms of thousands of Cores not to felicitate the pockets of-the politicians and bureaucrats but for the needs and welfare of the people,” he added.
“In the coming state assembly election, we all need to first understand the word meaning of adult franchise established under Article 326 of the Constitution of India which is a fundamental pillar of any democracy, also the state political government has to keep in mind that they are elected by the people so the state government has to have moral principle towards its people and also directly held accountable to the people. On the other hand the voters have to renounce the habit of selling votes because by selling votes during election we are directly denying the Constitutional rights,” the UNDP President appealed.
He concluded that given the present political situation of Nagaland with the “struggle for power based on personal gain and most importantly with the absent of all moral principle towards its people, imposing of Presidents Rule will be the only and best solution.”
