Preliminary NBSE 2026 review shows mixed scorecard for Nagaland govt schools

21 schools post 100% qualification; 27 record nil results

Government schools in Nagaland posted a mixed performance in the preliminary analysis of the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) 2026 HSLC and HSSLC examination results, with several institutions securing 100% pass records even as the overall HSLC pass percentage declined and more schools registered nil results.

The analysis is based on the provisional data released by NBSE and remains subject to revision.

In the HSLC examination, government schools recorded an overall pass percentage of 43.26%, down from 48.41% in 2025 and marking a third consecutive annual decline after reaching 49.13% in 2023. Private schools, in comparison, recorded 86.13%.

HSLC: Fewer schools with perfect scores
A total of 21 government schools achieved 100% pass results in the HSLC examination this year, down from 37 schools last year.

Among those with comparatively larger batches were Government Higher Secondary School Jotsoma with 19 students passing out of 19 appeared, Government High School Maova with 16 out of 16, Government High School Thuvopisu with 13 out of 13, and Government High School Khomi with 12 out of 12. 

Other schools with full pass percentages included Government High School Forest Colony, John Government Higher Secondary School Viswema, Yajen Aier Government High School Mopungchuket, Government High School Lazami and Government High School Khaghaboto.

Nil-result schools rise
At the same time, 27 government schools recorded zero qualified candidates in the HSLC examination, up from 20 last year, indicating persistent disparities in outcomes.

Some of the larger nil-result schools included Government High School Sangkor with 21 candidates appeared, Government High School Chen with 20, and Government High School Bumei with 19. 
Only one private school figured in the nil-result category.

HSSLC: Stronger showing in select schools
At the HSSLC level, several government higher secondary schools posted 100% pass results across streams.

In Arts, Government Higher Secondary School Jotsoma and Government Higher Secondary School Chukitong secured full results.

It was a double achievement for GHSS Jotsoma as it secured 100% pass percentage along with PM Shri GHSS Thangjam.

In Science, TM GJSS Kohima, GHSS Pfütsero and GHSS Wokha recorded full passes. 

NBSE also noted that two students from government higher secondary schools entered the HSSLC merit list  one each from PM Shri GHSS Chümoukedima in Arts and PM Shri Mayangnokcha GHSS in Science. 

A student from GHS Yachem was placed at Rank 19 in the HSLC merit list.
