The Nagaland Tourism Department, having realized that privatization and communitisation are a more efficient way of running the Tourist Lodges, Wayside Amenities and other tourism assets, have allotted several Rural Tourism assets to entrepreneurs and Village Tourism Boards to run on a day-to-day basis and to maintain it as well.
This has been done with the objective to offer employment opportunities and also to ensure overall sustainable upkeep of the tourism assets and resources, according to Annual Administrative Report 2025-26 of Tourism Department, tabled in the recent 8th session of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in Kohima.
In this regard, under the Communitization and Privatization Act, the Department has leased out 30 buildings/assets which is fully functional and earning good revenue.
Tourist Lodge Mokokchung (Hotel Metsuben) and Tourist Lodge Wokha (Tourist Resort) have also been privatized to local entrepreneurs and has been functioning satisfactorily till date, the report stated.
With a vision to promote tourism in the State, the Department has signed a Lease Agreement on 13th September 2023 with Hotel Polo Towers Pvt. Ltd Polo Ground, Shillong for the development of a 4/5 Star Category or Higher with Entertainment and Retail Facilities under PPP model on Design, Build, Maintain, Operate, Manage Transfer basis at New Minister Hill Tourist Lodge, Kohima and Tourist Lodge, Civil Hospital Colony, Dimapur.
Through this initiative, the State aims to reap several benefits including economic development, job creation for the youth and infrastructure investment and facilitate cultural exchange.
The report stated that the department aspires to pioneer a move for creation of opportunities for many to realize the untapped potential in the tourism and the hospitality sector of the state, the report stated.
