Kohima, February 17 (MExN): The AICRP on Linseed, Medziphema centre, NU: SAS organised a series of training and awareness programmes across districts of Kiphire (Kiphire village, Phelungre, Pungro, and Cedeyevong); Zunheboto (Alaphumi village) and Tuensang (Chessore) in Nagaland under the "Promotion of Linseed in NEH Region.
This initiative was taken up to promote the cultivation of linseed, a valuable oilseed crop and the sessions were held from December 16- 19, 3024, January-6- 7, 2025, and January 16-17, 2025 with the primary aim of these programs was to educate farmers about the cultivation techniques, benefits, and potential of linseed where total of approximately 85 participants participated, demonstrating strong enthusiasm and keen interest in the linseed crop.
During the series of trainings in the three districts, field visits and input distribution were also held where Junior Breeder, Dr Anil Kumar Singh presented the best practices for cultivating oilseeds suited to the climatic and soil conditions of the three districts, focusing particularly on linseed and the breeding techniques for the local farmers while Dr Virosanuo Solo, Junior Agronomist, provided detailed information about the linseed cultivation programme, emphasizing the health benefits and importance of oilseeds, especially linseed, for the local farming community while.
During the program, essential agricultural inputs, including knapsack sprayers, bio-control organic pesticides and spades, were distributed to the farmers to support them in their farming endeavors.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Hoineichong Singson, Technical Assistant, who acknowledged the farmers’ active participation. The initiative was carried out, with farmers expressing strong interest in integrating oilseeds into their existing cropping systems, indicating the growing potential for linseed cultivation in the region.
