Proposal for district status to Niuland gets nod from DPDB

Board to recommend upgradation to higher authority

Dimapur, July 6 (MExN): The Dimapur District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) members approved and recommended to the higher authority the proposal of upgrading Niuland ADC subdivision to a full-fledged district.

The decision was taken by the House during the DPDB meeting held on July 6 in the conference hall of DC Dimapur office under the chairmanship of Zhaleo Rio, Advisor, Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs who is also the chairman of DPDB Dimapur, a DIPR report informed.

Deliberating on the issue, Minister PHED Nagaland, Jacob Zhimomi who brought up the proposal for concurrence of the Board members, observed that Niuland which falls under the periphery of Dimapur district is a ‘very promising area’ with potential for fast economic development.

Advisor Tovihoto also opined that it was very apt for upgrading Niuland to a district, stating that it fulfills all requirements being one of the oldest sub-divisions created in 1987.

ADC Niuland, Athrila while highlighting on the issue, informed that at present, there are 109 villages under Niuland subdivision with 4 administrative circles covering an area of 454 sq km. She further informed that Niuland is situated in a strategic location geographically, sharing borders with two major towns of Assam and connectivity with important districts of Nagaland including the State capital.

‘Dimapur has highest vaccine coverage’

Meanwhile, DC Dimapur Rajesh Soundararajan urged the public to strictly adhere to all COVID appropriate behaviors and not to be complacent although the positivity rate of the district showed a declining trend.

With regard to vaccination, the DC informed that Dimapur district has achieved the highest coverage of vaccination in the State, while also reminding that, “Our target is 100% vaccination in the district."

CMO Dimapur, while giving a brief update on COVID-19 situation for Dimapur district, informed that at present, there are 472 beds in the district with 35 positive cases admitted in the hospital, and 267 under home isolation.

Currently there are 4 inmates at the CCC located at New DC complex while the district recorded 266 total deaths (186 males and 80 females) till date, the CMO informed.

In the meeting, proposal for setting up Norman Putsure College at Ward 10 Chümoukedima was also approved by the Board.

DHO Dimapur, Temsu presented the activities taken up by the district Horticulture department.

In his concluding remarks, the Dimapur DPDB Chairman urged the members to be torchbearers in following COVID SOPs and also encouraged more participation during DPDB meetings.
