Proposal to fence Indo-Myanmar border ‘outrageous and atrocious,’ says Adinno

KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 2 (MExN): President of Naga National Council (NNC) AdinnoPhizo on Friday termed the proposal of the Government of India to scrap the Free Movement Regime and fence the Indo-Myanmar border in Nagaland as “outrageous and atrocious” on the part of India.

“The latest offence of India on Nagaland is the talk of fencing Indo-Myanmar border in Nagaland. In this matter, this is to remind India that there is no Indo-Myanmar border in Nagaland.” Adinno stated in her message on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of NNC formation which falls on February 2.

The NNC president alleged that “the idea of the fencing is to divide Nagaland into parts and turn them into concentration camps.” This is not acceptable and Nagas will not allow it to happen now and in future, she asserted.

Adinno also underscored that February 2, 1946 is the most important landmark in the history of the Naga Nation, because on this day the Naga leaders of the day took the first step towards self-determination to form a modern nation state for the Nagas by forming the NNC.

“For which we salute and honour them for their foresight and clear vision for the Nagas. This came about in keeping pace with the challenges and developments taking place in the region and the world, during the Second World War and the aftermath. As such, the Nagas felt the need to organise the Nagas families under one roof,” the NNC president stated.
