PSC exposes no-shows, empty desks in Longleng govt offices

Longleng, August 22 (MExN): The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has raised alarm over absenteeism, staff shortages, and government negligence in several key offices in Longleng district following its latest inspection drive.

The student body said the Village Guard Office continues to suffer due to the absence of a proper kote facility, with reports revealing that the construction bill for the kote has not yet been released by higher authorities. The PSC urged the concerned department “to resolve this matter at the earliest.”

The District Food and Civil Supplies Office was found to be crippled by acute staff shortages, which the PSC said was adversely impacting efficiency and service delivery.

At the Public Works and Housing Department (NPWD), the PSC expressed dismay that despite Longleng being a district headquarters, the absence of an Executive Engineer and SDO office (Housing) “reflects sheer negligence from the Government.” It observed that employees of the Housing department are facing severe difficulties and called upon the higher authority “to take necessary measures immediately.”

The Land Records and Survey Department was also flagged for operating without a regular LDA and two SFAs. “In the absence of adequate staff, the functioning of the office is often disrupted,” the PSC said, urging that immediate steps be taken.

The Conference further expressed “deep concern over the persistent absence of several Heads of Departments (HoDs) and Staff,” adding that “such negligence not only hampers the smooth functioning of offices but also directly affects the delivery of essential public services to the citizens.”

While it acknowledged that some departments were “upholding good governance and maintaining a positive working environment,” the PSC stressed that accountability and transparency in government offices must be ensured. It appealed to officers and staff “to uphold punctuality, sincerity, and dedication, while keeping in mind their responsibility towards the welfare of the public.”

The PSC Inspection Committee said: “An office without HoDs and its establishment Staff (branch) will not be tolerated. Officers who attend only DPDB meetings without performing their regular duties cannot be considered sincere and committed to service. There are some offices only 4th grade attending the office which creates inconvenience to deliver public service in time, this will be strictly checked and reveal in the media domain.”

The PSC said it will continue inspection drives in Longleng and “shall not hesitate to take necessary measures in the larger interest of public service.”
