DIMAPUR, MAY 30 (MExN): More than 10, 000 people attended a public rally at police point Zunheboto town on Wednesday protesting against the killing of a 16-year-old school boy, Toki who became a victim of factional feud on Tuesday. The body of the Class IX student was kept at the venue of the public rally. Schools and offices and all business establishments were closed during the meeting when the public resolved on four points.
The public has demanded termination of both commanders of the NSCN (K) and GPRN/NSCN responsible for the gunfight leading to the killing. They demanded awarding stringent punishment to the commanders from their respective authorities. This was among the four resolutions adopted.
Another point stated that the public resolved not to pay any kind of tax to any faction without prior and proper consultation with the Sumi frontal organisations and elders.
Further, the public has asked the cadres of all factions to immediately withdraw from public areas and remain confined in their designated camps. In the event of anymore gunfights and disturbance of peace, the public resolved to come out on the streets with dao, spear and whatever weapons available with them to flush out the cadres. This was a reaffirmation of an earlier resolution of December 26, 2011.
In its last point resolution, the public has asked the government to send in more security and paramilitary reinforcement for patrolling Zunheboto town to instil sense of security and confidence in the minds of the people.
During the 3-hour long rally from 10 am - 1 pm, the irate public reportedly shouted that if the Naga national workers were to continuously endanger the lives of the common people, then the public would better abandon the idea of freedom or sovereignty.
The public rally was held under the initiative of the All Sumi Students Union (SKK) and attended by members of Sumi Hoho, Sumi Kukami Hoho, Sumi Totimi Hoho, Sumi Games & Sports Association, Zunheboto Range Students’ Union etc besides thousands of public.
Sumi Hoho has condemned the incident in the strongest terms and urged the factions to respect the sentiments of the people. It conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
