Pungro inter-school sports meet concludes

Officials along with the winners during the Inter-School Sports Meet 2026 held at Pungro Public Ground on October 9.

Pungro, October 9 (MExN): The Inter-School Sports Meet 2026, organised by the Pungro Sports Association (PSA) under the theme “Planting Dreams, Building Champions”, concluded at Pungro Public Ground on Friday.

The valedictory session began with an invocation by Ventsuthong, EU president of LFHSS and GHSS, followed by a welcome address by Renzumew, vice-president of the PSA.

K Bendangmoa, Divisional Accounts Officer in the Urban Development Department, Nagaland, attended the valedictory session as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Bendangmoa highlighted the importance of sports in the holistic development of students and stressed the need for inclusive and quality education.

He urged teachers to identify, nurture and develop students’ talents to enable them to pursue opportunities at the national and international levels. Education should go beyond academic achievements, with teachers playing a vital role in shaping students’ character, confidence and future potential, he said.

Bendangmoa called for sustained efforts to integrate sports with education and create more opportunities for students to develop their abilities and excel in different fields.

Prizes were distributed to recognise the outstanding performances of students across all categories.

In the sub-junior category, GMS Pungro Town emerged as champions, while Mt Horeb Baptist School finished runners-up. Christian School won the junior category, with GMS Pungro Town securing the runners-up position.

In the senior category, GHSS emerged as champions, while Christian School finished runners-up.

The formal ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Throngso, general secretary of the PSA, followed by a closing ceremony led by Around Saramati Mountain School and a benediction by Jenpusi of Mt Horeb Baptist School.
