Kiphire May 4 (MExN): T Torechu MLA inaugurated the village Guard Office on Monday April 25. Speaking at the inaugural function, MLA T Torechu appreciated the VGs effort for the successful completion of the VG office building which according to the MLA was expressive of cooperation and unity among the people especially the Village Guards.
MLA Torechu also reminded the guards the duties and responsibilities of VGs and said that the Government is taking initiative to strengthen the VGs. He also encouraged the guards that they, as soldiers, should be effective in maintaining law and order in their respective towns and villages. Special attention for the development of backward areas have being taken up by the DAN government under the dynamic leadership of Neiphiu Rio he said as well as reminding that the year 2006 has been declared as the year of farmers by the government.
In this regard Torechu challenged the farmers to produce surplus in agriculture to meet their own local needs as well as for the improvement of their economy. He urged the villages to maintain proper coordination with the neighboring villages and to judiciously utilize funds and materials provided to them by the government. The other highlights of the programme were folk songs, traditional dances, and western songs. He was earlier accorded a warm welcome with a grand ride escorted by two wheelers for about one kilometer towards Pungro village by Village guards, GBs and VCCs. People from about thirty villages under Pungro Sadar received the MLA.
