DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): The Purana Bazar Village Council (PBVC) on Saturday said it demolished an illegal wall erected in the vicinity of the official residence of Director, Land Records & Survey located at Middle Colony, Purana Bazar.

According to a press statement issued by PBVC Head GB Pito Mech and GB Vihoto Yeptho, the Middle Colony Council on perceiving that the land of the official residence of the Director, Land Records & Survey has been encroached by an unknown person by erecting wall had submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur for necessary recourse.

However, despite repeated appeal, the district administration did not take any action which compelled the PBVC to intervene and take action against the illegal encroacher(s) by demolishing the illegal wall which has been erected, it stated.

The PBVC said it cannot allow illegal encroacher(s) to freely carry out illegal activities under its jurisdiction and warned the encroacher(s) to desist itself from carrying out the same.

Taking serious note, the PBVC said it is determined to find out the responsible encroacher(s) and to find out under whose direction and order the  encroachment took place. It also cautioned that it will initiate necessary action against the guilty by exposing them and filing FIR against them.

The PBVC meanwhile informed all the government offices and department within Purana Bazar jurisdiction that it is a traditional Village of Kacharis and all lands which has been occupied by the different departments has been donated by the land owners free of cost without taking any land compensation for the development of the village and not for any individual or authority to encroach it.

It noted that many lands are still required for the development of the village like land for the construction of East Dimapur Town Council office, EAC Office etc. Therefore the PBVC has informed the department (s) who are not in a position to develop the land which has been donated by the village council to take the liberty to vacate the land to pave ways for other development activities and not encroach upon it arbitrarily as the land belongs to the village which is protected by Article 371 (A) of the Constitution.

The PBVC also requested the district administration and Department of Land Records and Survey not to issue any Land Patta be it private or government occupied land without the consent or recommendation of the village council and GBs to curb such land encroachment in the near future.

It also informed that the village council visited the private residence of the Director to apprise him of the situation and the action to be initiated by the Council; however the Director was not at home and therefore could not meet him.
