Today i.e 7th June, 2012 the Phesama Youth Organization submitted a representation to the Superintendent of Police, Kohima with a strong demand to set up an Enquiry Committee to take stern action and impose befitting punishment to the police personnel who had insulted, assaulted and physically beaten up Vizokho Zashumo in the afternoon of 6th June, 2012 at New Police Reserve, Phesama, Kohima.
The incident in brief was that in the afternoon of 6th June, 2012 at around 2:00 PM Vizokho Zashumo the president of Phesama Students’ Union along with few of his colleagues were returning from social work. In order to raise some funds for the forth coming Phesama Students Union jubilee the students were engaged in some civil /manual works such as fencing and protection wall through some local contractors within the border compound of New Police Reserve Phesama. All of a sudden some few police personnel came and questioned Vizokho Zashumo as to why he is taking photograph with his cell phone and he answered “No” stating that they were doing some manual/labour works for New Police Reserve. Within a short time a good number of police personnel in New Police Reserve came and gathered there but amongst them four of them attacked him without any reservation where he was verbally insulted and assaulted to the extent that he would be beaten to death and just to throw his death body still then who can say what? and what he can say? what he can do? And not only that they snatch his shirt and pull him from his chest, he was slapped several times and physically beaten where he claimed four police personnel were involves and these four police did not listen to Vizokho’s friend and they were very helpless as it was inside their camp and the police were in full uniform.
PYO stand
The Phesama Youth Organization would like to make their stand clear that the Organization cannot tolerate the act of four police personnel meted out to Vizokho Zashumo who is one of their active members in the afternoon of 6th June 2012 for no fault or reason and where he was very badly insulted with the highest and serious words, slapped and beaten. We are aware that the land is given to govt/police and we are not claiming the physical possession of land ownership but we are also very much aware that we are the original land owners and it is very much within the village jurisdiction and even the police in New Reserve enjoyed much natural resources such as water coming from Phesama village jurisdiction. And this kind of incident was not the first time but there was some similar incidents in the past which is creating the relationship amongst the villagers and New Police Reserve more worse and tense.
Demand
The Phesama Youth Organization of Phesama village strongly demanded that the concerned authority may set up an enquiry committee to impose stern action/punishment to the four police personnels who had insulted, assaulted and physically beaten up the President of Phesama Students’ Union Vizokho Zashumo son of Vikeko-o Zashumo at the earliest failing which the youth organization shall take its course of action and for which the concerned authority would be held responsible for the consequences arises thereafter out of this incident.
