Dimapur, November 14 (MExN): Chetan Bist’s record-breaking unbeaten 304 runs propelled Nagaland to a commanding position in their Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Mizoram at Gokulbhai Somabhai Patel Stadium, Nadiad, Gujarat, on November 14.
At stumps on Day 2, Nagaland had a firm grip on the match after declaring their first innings at a mammoth total of 736/7. Mizoram, in reply, found themselves in a precarious situation at 5/2.
Besides Bist’s historic triple century, Nischal Dega played a vital knock of 145 off 169 balls, while Jagadeesha Suchith fell just short of a century, finishing on 99.
Mizoram’s KC Cariappa took 4 wickets for 141 runs in a marathon 44-over spell.
In reply, Mizoram were left reeling at 5/2 at the close of Day 2, with Suchith claiming both wickets.
Trailing by a massive 731 runs, Mizoram now face an uphill battle to avoid a follow-on and stay in contention.
Cooch Behar Trophy
However, Nagaland’s result in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy against Saurashtra was not as positive as its Ranji campaign on Thursday. Saurashtra defeated Nagaland by an innings and 364 runs.
Earlier, Saurashtra had declared their first innings at 523/5, led by a solid knock of 165 runs from Yuvraj Gohil.
Nagaland repeated their poor performance, scoring just 59 in their first innings and managing only 100 in the second, eventually losing the match by an innings and 364 runs.
