Ranji Trophy: Nagaland trail Goa by 71 runs on Day 2

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The second day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Final 2024-25 between Nagaland and Goa, held at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima, Dimapur, witnessed a closely fought contest. 

Goa, after resuming their innings at 258/7, posted a total of 276 runs in 104.2 overs. Nagaland, in reply, ended the day at 205/8 in 62 overs, trailing by 71 runs. The match remains finely balanced, setting the stage for an intriguing Day 3.

Goa’s innings was anchored by Kashyap Bakhale, who remained unbeaten with a determined 79 off 188 balls. He received valuable support from Snehal Kauthankar, who scored 63 off 143 balls, and Suyash Prabhudessai, who contributed 56 off 107 deliveries. Nagaland’s bowlers put up a spirited effort, with Jagadeesha Suchith leading the attack, claiming 4/69 in 34 overs. Imliwati Lemtur also delivered a precise performance, taking 3/38 in 21.2 overs.

In response, Nagaland’s innings faced early setbacks but was revived by skipper Rongsen Jonathan, who top-scored with an impressive 86 off 116 balls, hitting 11 boundaries. He was ably supported by Hem Chetri, who displayed grit with his 55 off 133 balls, including six fours. Goa’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with Heramb Parab taking 3/26 in 10 overs and Mohit Redkar contributing with figures of 2/69 in 24 overs.

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, attended the match, along with Goa officials, showcasing their support for the players and the spirit of cricket.

As the teams prepare for Day 3, Nagaland will look to add crucial runs to their total, while Goa will aim to wrap up the innings swiftly and build on their lead.
