Re-opening of schools after daily COVID-19  positivity rate falls below 3%: Manipur CM

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday said that re-opening of schools for conduct of physical classes will be considered when the daily COVID-19 positivity rate comes down below three to two percent.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of a function at Sainik School, Imphal, Biren Singh said that the current daily positivity rate of the state is above five percent on average and not recommendable for reopening the schools.

He said that the state government is trying its best to curb the spread of the virus.

The state government is considering reopening of the schools if the situation improved further and the rate came down to three to two percent, he said.

Regarding the payment of compensation to the deceased victims of COVID-19, the chief minister said that the state government is ready to disburse the same once necessary instruction from the Centre comes up.

The Union government had recently approved Rs 50,000 as compensation for kin of people who died due to the deadly disease of COVID-19.
