Dimapur, August 25 (MExN): The Lotha Public Organization (LPO) has urged the Nagas to contribute towards peace and unity, stating that, “for far too long, Nagas have been absorbed in fighting amongst ourselves.”
The true spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness for the sake of the younger generation in the Naga society has been long overdue, the LPO said in a press statement issued on August 25.
While calling for an early settlement of the protracted Indo-Naga political issue, the Organization also appealed the Government of India (GoI) to resume the Indo-Naga political talk at the highest level i.e. Prime Minister level to expedite the talk at the earliest possible time.
It acknowledged the GoI for recognising the unique history and the situation of the Nagas by signing the Framework agreement, and also reminded the GoI to consider the Naga Flag and Constitution as beseeched by the Naga people.
“These two inherent rights are very dear to Nagas and it is regarded as the ‘Heart and Soul’ of the Naga people,” the LPO stated.
It further urged the GoI to anticipate, respect and adhere with the FA in letter and spirit, adding that recognition of Naga flag and Constitution would finally bring about the honourable and acceptable political settlement between the GoI and the Nagas.
It also voiced the firm commitment of the Lotha Nagas in upholding the Naga identity until the ultimate goal of sovereignty and integration is achieved.
Meanwhile, the LPO stated that when the GoI has officially acknowledged the unique history of the Nagas, the Nagas must not lose sight of it, but instead “accept this achievement as a nuclear family to come together as a single entity of being a Naga family.”
Adding that the Nagas are at a ‘very critical juncture’, it urged all the Naga intelligentsia, individuals, organizations and the government to display the true spirit of oneness and welcome the ‘new Nagalim’ for just peace and prosperity.
