Reconsider counting on Sunday: NPF writes ECI

Kohima, October 10 (MExN): The Naga People's Front (NPF) has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) requesting a reconsideration of December 3 as the date for counting in the upcoming assembly elections in various states, including a bye-election in Nagaland, as the date falls on a Sunday.

In a letter addressed to ECI Secretary Sanjeev Kumar Prasad, the NPF pointed out that 90% of the citizens in Nagaland are Christians. "Sunday is observed as a very solemn Day of Worship for all Christians, and Nagaland is no exception," stated MLA and Secretary General of NPF, Achumbemo Kikon, in the letter, while appealing for the reconsideration of the date of counting.

The ECI had announced on October 9 that the bye-election to fill the vacancy in the 43-Tapi Assembly Constituency (AC) under Mon district of Nagaland would be held on November 7, with the declaration of results on December 3.

Additionally, the ECI informed that Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram would hold elections on different days from November 7 to 30, with votes to be counted on December 3.
