MON, AUGUST 3 (MExN): The District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), Mon, in collaboration with the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society, organised the Red Run-Marathon 2025 on August 2 to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and promote healthy living among the youth.

The 10-kilometre marathon began at 5:40 am from the local ground, flagged off by Superintendent of Police Mon, Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, IPS. The race route extended to the DIET Centre and returned to the starting point. A total of 128 participants between the ages of 17 and 25 enrolled for the run.

Panlang, Chairman of the Prayer Committee Zaklom Fellowship, KBCM, offered the opening prayer before the flag-off.

Speaking at the event, Dr Wungyong Konyak, District Programme Officer (RCH & UIP), said, “Each of you has become an ambassador to educate people about HIV/AIDS.” He emphasised the health benefits of physical activity, noting that walking 7000 steps daily reduces the risk of numerous diseases and sudden death.

In the male category, Nahzei S. Konyak secured first position, followed by T. Manlang Konyak and Wangtho C. Wangsa in second and third places respectively. In the female category, T. Phenjen Konyak took the top spot, while Hanna Konyak and Wanjen C. Konyak came in second and third.

The winners were awarded certificates signed by the Chief Medical Officer and DPO DISHA, along with prize money. All other participants received certificates of gratitude and light refreshments were served.

Longyim Tzudir, District Programme Officer, DISHA, expressed appreciation to the Mon District Athletic Association (MDAA), educational institutions, Youth Resources & Sports, Shansham Organisation, District Administration, Police Department, and CMO and DISHA staff, as well as all wards of Mon town for their support in making the event a success. He also acknowledged the presence and support of the SP and DPO (RCH & UIP).

The results were declared by T. Phongwang K, President of MDAA, and the event was chaired by Longthrang, DIS DISHA.
