Rejoinder by Seyochung Village Council

Rejoinder to the press statement under the caption “Clarification by G. Kughovi, Advisor and H. Phutoi G/Secretary of Sumi Community Seyochung Village” dated 4th Dec ’06.

In connection to the above Seyochung Council would like to make some points for clarification.

1.    It is alleged that “Vihuto statement is not his statement but the statement of Sangtam Community of Seyochung Village” is totally false and misleading to the people. It is made that Shri. Vihuto 2nd GB of Seyochung village is a responsible person who is holding the post of 2nd GBship. Has every right to say and make necessary correction in order to maintain peace and harmony in the village.

2.    Shri late. Ghuhetha is a descendent of (1) Aocho (2) Lopongse (3) Lojungse and (4) Yangthrongkyü. So, he is very much by blood Tuccu, later known as Sangtam. So, alleging that Shri. Vihuto 2nd GB is very much Sumi by blood is false. Therefore, without ascertaining the facts of history and origin one should not hurriedly make a conclusion.

3.    As regard to chosen of Sumi Community Chairman, the General Public of Seyochung Village does not know when the election / selection of said Chairman was held because there is only one village Council and one village administration. Let the history reveal the truth with regard to the establishment of Seyochung village after properly establishment of Seyochung. So, claiming to have their own society or community is not responsible.

4.    The village Council authority as per the resolution passed by the general public Shri Shivito GB was removed because he had violated the village resolution and was not removed being claiming as a Sumi by blood. Any citizen of the Seyochung village whoever violates the village resolution is being removed not on the ground of being Sumi.

5.    Shri. Shivito has left the village on his own along with his other families in the year 2004 and settled at Seyochung Town. The United Sangtam Baptist Lithro Ashimukhong appealed to all the villages that the year 2006 be the year of forgiveness and reconciliations. Accordingly Seyochung Village also forgiven and reconcile with some citizens of Seyochung village who were removed or punished as per the village resolution. Mr Shivito is also one of them who have been forgiven by the village. But after coming to village from time to time from Seyochung Town Shivito was again trying to disintegrate or disturb peaceful atmosphere of the village. Therefore, the village authority asked him not to come to the village in order to preserve the age old tradition of peace and tranquility in the village.

6.    Shri Kughalu is no doubt the adopted son of Shri Late Setongthsing Sangtam of Old Monger village. So, as per the customary practices and usages any adopted son has no right or claim to establish or to form community or society in the already well established village.

7.    In fact, in the year 2004 the village authority and the village students’ union asked all the citizens of Seyochung village to have a citizen meeting on 29th Dec’2004. But some of the Seyochung villager taking the name of Sumi wrote a letter stating that Sums of Seyochung village will boycott in the Seyochung village Sangtam citizens meeting. It is true that trouble started in the year 2004 which was purely their creation. Therefore, it is clarified that at no point of time Seyochung village authority particularize Sangtam or Sumi to have a separate Sangtam of Sumi citizen meeting.
