Rejoinder to the NPF press and media bureau note on the NPCC Dharna

•-I would like to respond to the remark made by the NPF press and media bureau quote “Such culture of holding dharnas and calling for strikes is typical of Congress culture and should find no place in our Naga society as it is alien to our culture and way of life”. (dated 20th April 2011)  What exactly is alien to our Naga culture? The objection to corruption? The demand for justice to be served? Maybe it is alien because our culture of ‘live and let live’ has made room for systemic apathy so much so that we have become as comfortable with corruption as our own skin.
There was a time when corruption was ‘alien’ to Naga culture but today we live in a society that feeds off this disease. The glaring lack of development in our state is daily proof of corruption and if a dharna is going to expose it or even bring in a shred of accountability, then bring it on!
This is not written in support of the NPCC however, the Government should not allow for such lame remarks - it owes the Naga public a proper explanation for any discrepancies.
