In response to the article issued on 17th and 21st February 2006 a statement by GB Village Chief Federation and NVCO on illegal tax collection, the Dimapur Truck Owners Association (DTOA) and Dimapur Motor Workers Association (MWA) is so much constrained to release this joint rejoinder so as to clarify the stand and position of the Association and would like to draw the attention of the concerned authority.
Of late, there have been mixed reaction from the G.Bs Federation and Consumer Organization pertaining to illegal tax collection by various Associations and Unions. However, we express our gratitude and appreciation to the G.Bs Federation and Consumer Organization who took the initiative in this regard by checking the task of tax menaces and anti-social in around Nagaland.
Whereas, basing on this situation and in connection of collection of taxes from the truckers in Dimapur check gates, besides levying taxes from Dimapur to Kohima check gates from local trucks is out of our context and the question does never arises as alleged and published. The distinction of collecting tax’s and subscription of fee’s has a different notion. The Association normally subscript membership fee’s from the truckers who are registered as life-members and temporary members in our Association.
It is also to be noted that since for nearly fifteen months, both DTOA and MWA have temporarily ceased and stopped the subscription of fees from the truckers at the entry gates and check gates at and in Dimapur.
Therefore, before verifying properly we would earnestly request the concern G.Bs Federation and Consumers Organization and as well as the Administrative concern not to publish baseless report in order not to create any confrontation and perplexity.
President DTOA & MWA
