In a significant move to curb river pollution, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly's Committee on Environment and Climate Change announced a strict ban on the release of septic tank waste into rivers and nullahs within the Kohima municipality.

The decision was resolved during a consultative meeting held between the committee, officials from the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and local colony chairmen at K Shikhu Conference hall at NLA Secretariat, Kohima on August 26.

Committee Chairman and MLA Achumbemo Kikon informed media persons that the KMC will be tasked with enforcing the ban. He stated that the municipal body will also identify and designate specific routes for cesspool vehicles, addressing the challenge of narrow colony roads that currently hinder access.

The meeting also expressed grave concern over the rising pollution in Kohima and stressed on the need to enforce proper waste segregation to keep Kohima city neat and clean.
