Republican Party of India (A) to contest in Nagaland polls

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The newly formed Nagaland state unit of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) today announced that the party would be taking part in the forthcoming Nagaland assembly polls.  

A press note from the party’s Nagaland unit President, Azungla Imsong and Secretary (Admin), Arenla Pongen informed that a central team visited the state on January 21 and conducted a meeting with appointed office bearers of the state unit. It may be noted that the RPA (A) is led by Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale.  

The meeting was led by the party’s observer for the North East, Vinod Nikalje and Chief Convener for North East, Hitish Deori. The meeting, it was informed, was attended by “likeminded people from across the state.”  

It discussed more on the issues relating to the forth coming general election and took the decision to take part in the forthcoming general election 2018 by setting up candidates. The party has invited all “likeminded people to come and join hands to strengthen the party to fight against rampant corruption and work for the development of society in particular and Nagaland state in general.”  

The party claimed that it stands for the “upliftment of the minorities socially, economically and politically.”  

JD (U) receives 12 ticket applications

The Nagaland State unit of the Janata Dal (U) meanwhile today announced that it has received, till date, twelve applications, from various districts of Nagaland.

  A press note from the JD (U) Nagaland Convever informed that the applicants include “some prominent politicians, former ministers and MLAs.” “The applicants are also from former activists of civil organisations including students’ bodies,” it stated, while adding that the party is “determined to contest only in conducive and winnable constituencies.”  

Moreover, the party said it would not hesitate to filter the ticket aspirants “based only on commitments to the party ideologies and manifestos on a long term principles.”  

Further the JD (U) said that although still a part of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), yet, the state delegation along with the National President will take a final call on this on January 27 in New Delhi.
