Rescued Barking Deer rehabilitated in Anatongre
Forest guard carries the rescued Indian Muntjac (Barking Deer) fawn at Anatongre village, Kiphire.
Kiphire, February 1 (MExN): The Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change on January 25 released a rescued Indian Muntjac (Barking Deer) fawn at Anatongre village, Kiphire.
The species is protected under Schedule III of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.
Earlier, on January 24, Kiphire Wildlife Division had received reports from Anatongre village council that the fawn was rescued while clearing of fields where it was found abandoned by its mother. The villagers had brought back the fawn to the village for its safety, stated Kiphire Wildlife Division, Wildlife Warden, Suman W M Sivachar IFS in a press release.
After visits to the village and discussions with the villagers, a team led by Inoheto Sema, Forest Guard including members of Anti-Poaching Squad managed to trace out the location on January 25, where previous calls of the Deer had been heard. The Deer was released within a few feet from its kin.
The Wildlife Warden during meeting with the villagers expressed gratitude to the village council, wildlife committee and villagers of Anatongre for helping in conservation of wildlife.
