Restore Kohima–Dimapur road via Zhadima–Tsogin–Niuland: RSZ, WSYF

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) and the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) on Tuesday highlighted the urgent need to restore and develop the Kohima–Dimapur road via Zhadima–Tsogin–Niuland, calling it the only viable alternative route between the State capital and commercial hub.

In a joint statement, RSZ president Kegwayhun Tep and WSYF president Atokiho Sumi said the road, despite its immense utility, has long been neglected. Unlike the main highway, the Zhadima–Tsogin–Niuland route has the potential to serve as an all-season road that could ease heavy traffic congestion between Kohima and Dimapur. However, its present deplorable condition has rendered it nearly unusable, causing immense hardships to commuters, transporters and the general public who depend on it, they said.

The two organisations appealed to the concerned department to immediately initiate measures for its restoration, stressing that developing the road into a reliable all-weather route was not merely a matter of convenience but of necessity. They maintained that the road would benefit not only Kohima and Dimapur but also provide lifeline connectivity to inter-district commuters.

The RSZ and WSYF demanded that the government, through its concerned department, prioritise repairing, upgrading and preparing the Zhadima–Tsogin–Niuland road without delay.

“The public has long borne the brunt of administrative negligence on this matter and any further delay will only compound the hardships faced by travellers and villagers alike,” the statement said.
The organisations reaffirmed that the demand was raised “in the interest of all communities who stand to benefit from this vital road connectivity” and urged the government to act with urgency and restore the road to a serviceable standard at the earliest.
