Rev. Kari Longchar recipient of Peace Channel Award 2011 during the North East Youth Peace & Cultural Peace Festival at Kohima.
Dimapur, October 6 (MExN): Rev. Kari Longchar, Chairman NBCC Peace Commission was honoured with Peace Channel Award 2011 during the North East Youth Peace & Cultural Peace Festival 2011 which came to a colourful conclusion with the valedictory and Peace Award function on October 5 at Little Flower Hr. Sec. School Kohima. Maj. Gen. B.S. Das, SM, graced the occasion as the chief guest while Som Kamei IPS, Director, NEZCC and Rev. Carolus Neisahou, VG diocese of Kohima were the guest of honour and patron respectively.
The function culminated with the peace awards, which was this time conferred on Rev. Kari Longchar, Chairman NBCC Peace Commission. In his acceptance message, the awardee said that he was very humbled and honoured by the recognition and stressed that work for peace is always a team work and therefore he didn’t feel deserving to be the awardee as single person.
Earlier in the day, the ‘Run for Peace – Peace Marathon was flagged of by Kelhouneizo Yhome, president NSF in the presence of TAP Paul, Sales Manager, SBI Regional office, Dimapur. The marathon was organized as a part of the Peace Channel’s ‘Peace to All 2015 Campaign’ Other events of the day included a panel discussion on ‘Role of Youth in Peace Building in North East’ moderated by Mr. Robert Solo. The panelists were, Ms. Rosemary, Lecturer, English Dept, NU and Fr. Sebastian Ousepparmbil, Director, DAN.
The annual reporting, evaluation and planning of peace clubs in the different districts was another main feature of the day. The event came to a close with talent show and cultural evening followed by grand concert of the Peace Channel Band. The grand cultural event attended by over 1300 youth from 6 states of North East, was held to mark the international day of peace and the Foundation day of Peace Channel, was supported by and State Bank of India.
