Rio calls for building tourist friendly atmosphere

Hygiene and cleanliness drive is gaining momentum across Nagaland as from next year; there will be inter-colony/khel competition on cleanliness starting with Tuophema tourist village.


Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been according top priority on cleanliness campaign in India by initiating various mechanisms like Open Defecation Free and clean environment.


Speaking at 13th Hutuophezou Day here, Rio said that there will be inter-colony/khel competition on cleanliness at Tuophema and the cleanest colony/khel will be handsomely awarded.


In this, he called upon the villagers to start the process of keeping their respective area neat and clean.


Asking the villagers to adopt good sanitary practices, Rio also reminded them to stop using one time-use plastic within the village and go for alternative like paper/cloth bag, cane basket etc.


Also stating that Tuophema is one of the tourist destinations of the state, he said that the village now owned tourist resort, rural museum and Angami Sekrenyi festival has become an annual calendar of activity at Tuophema village for three days (February 25 to 27).


To attract the inflow of tourist, he said tourist friendly atmosphere is required as they generally come to get glimpse of the unique culture and tradition, to experience the lifestyle of the Nagas as well as scenic beauty of Nagaland.


In this, he stressed on the need to standardize the cultural activities like folk song, folk dance, indigenous games and also the food items. Further, Rio called upon the people to conserve community forest and restrict hunting of wild animals.
