Dimapur, March 20 (MExN): The Medical Superintendent, Doctors, Nurses and Staff of District Hospital Dimapur have condemned the mental torture meted out to Dr. Neiriethonuo on account of extortion of money, which took place in the hospital campus. A condemnation note issued by Dr. Ditsolo K.Mero, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur stated that the incident has created insecurity and disturbed the peaceful working atmosphere in the hospital. In spite of Naga society’s open demonstration against extortion and corruption, the authority wonders as to how even a sympathetic, sincere, and efficient doctor is not spared. The authority in the note appealed to all right thinking citizen to condemn the incident, and join hands to make hospitals a free and peaceful place.
Meanwhile, a separate press note issued by Kikruma Union Dimapur District (KUDD) has vehemently condemned the incident that had occurred on March 17 where Dr. Bano Tunyi, was threatened and demanded money by accused Nihoto Kiba, son of Luhoshe Kiba of Zutovi Village a resident of Supply Colony Dimapur along with his accomplices in the name of NSCN-IM, Niuland Area Commander. The note also alleged that the accused and his accomplices had not only demanded money, but their actions had shown attempt on life and rape.
In a joint statement, KUDD Chairman Asa Kezo, and Secretary Asapu Thirah condemned the barbaric act. Nihoto Kiba, and Howoto Awomi were arrested by police personnel on March 17 and 18 respectively, but some of their accomplices were still absconding. The union therefore appealed to the District Administration, Police, Naga National Workers and the right thinking citizens in general to look into the problem seriously. The union further urged the government and the law enforcing authority to apprehend those who are still absconding and punish them according to the law in proper manner.
