Rising People’s Party welcomes decision on FCA and UCC

Bats for taking opinion of all political parties on prominent issues

Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) today appreciated the decision of the State Government to ‘oppose/repudiate UCC and FCA,’ while further batting for taking opinion of all the political parties on prominent issues.

The decision on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act (FCA), 2023 is ‘most welcome,’ the party conveyed in a press statement.

The RPP also lauded all the tribal hohos and the churches for voicing their opinion on the two issues at hand.

Almost every political party, civil society organisation and the church had opposed either FCA or the UCC, and the NDPP-BJP coalition has done the right thing in opposing these two contentious matters without any reservation, it maintained.

The unequivocal opposition and the unity of purpose shown gives rise to the hope that despite our differences Naga people can live together without being divisive and destructive, it added.

Meanwhile, the RPP ‘advised’ the State Government to take the opinion of all the political parties in the state when it comes to prominent issues involving the state as a whole.

While differences certainly exist on matters of principle and governance, every political party in the State is working for the welfare of the people, and the RPP is no exception, it added.

It must be noted here that on September 1, the Government of Nagaland convened a consultative meeting to deliberate on the contentious issues of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), FCA and UCC.

Addressing media after the meeting, Nagaland Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affair, KG Kenye said that the meeting  was  ‘very conclusive’ and had ‘consensus’ on the three subjects and necessary formalities will be processed and made official during the next Assembly Session starting September 11.  The RPP statement, however, was silent on the third issue.
