RNPC calls for bifurcation of KAAC area

Rengma Naga People’s Council (RNPC), the apex Rengma Naga body of Rengma Hills, Assam, would like to set forth its political agenda to the people of Assam;

1.  The Rengmas are the original and the indigenous inhabitants of Rengma Hills covered by the present Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) administrative area while the Karbis are not.

2.   The RNPC representing the Rengmas of Assam no longer recognise the KAAC.

3.   RNPC demands the bifurcation of the present (KAAC) administrative area into two parts- one part representing the Rengma Hills and the other part representing Hamren Sub-division of the erstwhile Mikir Hills. The Rengma Hills covering an area of approximately 8724 sq km shall be the homeland of the non-Karbi communities, including Rengmas, Dimasas, Adivasis, Kukis, Nepalis and mainland Indian communities and Hamren sub-division shall be the jurisdiction of the Karbi people.

4.   The new autonomous district council comprising of the newly emancipated communities shall remain part and parcel of united Assam as opposed to Karbi people who are fighting for a state separated from Assam.

5.  The RNPC calls upon the non-Karbi communities of Rengma Hills, Assam to join hands with Rengma brethrens to fulfill the objective of bifurcation of Karbi Anglong.

6.   The RNPC calls upon the dominant community of Assam, the Ahoms to support the Rengmas based on our shared history.
