Kohima, July 19 (MExN): The Rotary Club of Kohima on July 17 installed its new Board of Directors for the Rotary Year 2026-27 and outlined plans to expand community outreach, promote women's empowerment, youth development and peace initiatives.
Speaking at the club's 24th installation ceremony held at Hotel Japfü, Advisor to the Chief Minister on SCERT and Food Processing and MLA Achumbemo Kikon stressed the need for environmental stewardship and urged people to move away from shortsighted consumerism.
"The present generation has essentially borrowed the earth from future generations," Kikon said, calling on Rotarians to lead community-based conservation initiatives and promote ecological awareness.
The Rotary Club of Kohima also inducted Kikon as an honorary member in recognition of his public service and alignment with Rotary ideals.
The installation of the new leadership team was officiated by the club's Charter President and Advisor, Rtn Dr Rosemary Dzüvichü.
The new board is headed by President Rtn Dr Keneilhoulie Medom, with Rtn Neingutuo Usou as vice president, Rtn N Pipen Yanthan as secretary and Rtn Kevisano Maria as treasurer.
Four new regular members were also inducted into the club.
Addressing the gathering, Medom said the club would work under Rotary's motto "Service Above Self" and the global theme "Creating a Lasting Impact through Rotary", with emphasis on community outreach, women's empowerment, youth development, cross-cultural collaboration and peacebuilding.
Veteran Rotarian Om Prakash Gupta of the Rotary Club of Dimapur recalled Rotary's contribution to community service and encouraged the new leadership to continue serving society.
The annual report was presented by outgoing secretary Rtn Amongla C, while outgoing president Rtn Kevino Savino delivered the valedictory address.
During the programme, the club also awarded certificates to 20 women who completed training under its tailoring training unit during 2025-26.
A delegation from the Rotary Club of Dimapur, led by its president Rtn Pradeep Goel, attended the installation ceremony.
The programme was compered by past president Rtn Kevilenuo Solo and concluded with a vote of thanks by secretary Rtn N Pipen Yanthan.
