Rotten chicken seized in Dimapur

Shop ordered shut for investigation

Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): A surprise inspection carried out at New Market, Dimapur on August 27 led to the seizure of rotten chicken from a shop and the suspension of its trade license, according to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC).

In a press release, the DMC stated that the inspection was conducted on August 27, 2025, by staff from the Veterinary, Food Safety and Public Health Branch of the Council, led by Councillor Jonathan Yepthomi and Councillor Nikali Sumi.

“During the inspection, rotten chicken was found stored in a deep freezer inside the godown of Shop No. A1/215, New Market, belonging to Rajiv Uddin. Considering the grave risk to public health, the trade license of the defaulter has been seized, and the shop has been ordered to remain closed until completion of proper investigation/enquiry by the Dimapur Municipal Council,” the release said.

The Council cautioned traders and business establishments against compromising on hygiene and food safety standards. “The DMC warns all traders and business establishments to strictly maintain hygiene and food safety standards. Any violation will invite immediate and stringent action under the relevant provisions of law,” it added.

It further assured that “the Dimapur Municipal Council remains committed to ensuring safe and hygienic food for the citizens of Dimapur.”
