Guwahati, January 8 (MExN): In continuation of the campaign to detect contraband items and controlling touting activities throughout its jurisdiction, the Railway Protection Force of Northeast Frontier Railway (RPF-NFR) has arrested 3 persons in recent times.
According to press release from NFR CPRO, in one such case, the Crime Prevention and Detection Squad of RPF/Alipurduar recovered 6.010 kgs Ganja, wrapped with poly sheet and tied with cello tape, between Pundibari - Sajerper stations on December 20, 2020. The squad comprising of Head Constable Deepak Roy and Constables J Barman, Ravinder Kumar and Deepak Bhakat made the recovery while checking the Guwahati–Howrah Saraighat Express from New Coochbehar station, it said. Two persons identified as Chiranjit Barman and Biswajit Barman, 22 yrs of Seoraguri Coochbehar (WB) were arrested and were handed over to OC/GRPS/New Cooch Behar along with the seized item, it added.
In another case, tout named Prakash Mahato was arrested by the RPF-NFR from his shop "Chirag's Travels" near ITBP Public School, Dibrugarh on January 3 for illegally booking tickets using personal IDs. Future, past and cancelled e-tickets and one desktop with accessories were seized and a case was registered at the RPF post vide No-01/2021 dated-03.01.2021 U/S 143 Railway Act, the release said.
