RPF-NFR recovers ‘huge cache of explosive materials’ in Lumding

Guwahati, March 9 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway on March 7 recovered a “huge cache of explosive materials including gelatin sticks and fuse wire” from Lumding Railway Station, an official release said. 

Altogether 580 pieces of gelatin sticks and three coils of fuse wire were recovered during joint search conducted by RPF and GRP staff of Lumding after suspicious consignment came to the notice of the team, inforemd the press release from NFR CPRO Sabyasachi De.

Accordingly, one person identified as Thangsang Parate, a resident of Muolhoi, Haflong, was arrested for alleged involvement in transportation of the explosive materials, it said. 

On further interrogation, he admitted that he was carrying the material from Shillong to Dimapur, it added, adding that the apprehended person along with the recovered explosive substance was later handed over to OC/GRP/Lumding for further legal action.

The RPF-NFR has intensified surveillance at stations and trains to detect anti-social activities and elements while metal detectors, baggage scanners have also been installed at stations with high footfalls to curb transportation of explosive materials, the release said. 

Moreover, RPF dog squad also remains alert at railway premises to keep vigil, it added.
