RPF seizes 60 kg ganja, nabs three in NFR crackdown

Maligaon, April 26 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) seized nearly 60 kg of ganja worth over Rs 29 lakh and apprehended three persons during anti-narcotics operations conducted between April 20 and 22 across its jurisdiction.

According to an official release, the recovered contraband and the accused were handed over to respective Government Railway Police (GRP) outposts for further action.

On April 20, RPF personnel at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station recovered unclaimed ganja in two separate cases during routine checks. About 18 kg of ganja worth Rs 9 lakh was seized in one case, while another 13.80 kg valued at around Rs 6.90 lakh was recovered in a similar operation. The contraband was later handed over to the GRP outpost at New Jalpaiguri.

In a separate operation on April 21, RPF personnel at Agartala, in coordination with GRP, apprehended two persons at Agartala Railway Station and seized approximately 21.48 kg of ganja worth around Rs 10.74 lakh from their possession. The accused, along with the seized items, were handed over to the GRP outpost for further legal proceedings.

Continuing the crackdown, on April 22, an RPF team in coordination with GRP apprehended another individual at Agartala Railway Station and recovered around 6 kg of ganja valued at approximately Rs 3 lakh. The accused and the seized contraband were handed over to the GRP outpost.

The RPF said it has been carrying out sustained surveillance, intelligence-based operations and focused drives to prevent misuse of railway premises and trains for trafficking of narcotic substances, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure railway environment.
