RPP files PIL to restore Lokayukta’s power in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 28 (MExN): The Rising Peoples Party (RPP) on Tuesday asserted that the Lokayukta is the sole anti-corruption body in Nagaland, entrusted with investigating and addressing allegations of corruption and misconduct involving public servants, including government officials and elected representatives.

However, the party noted that the functioning of the Lokayukta in the state has been severely hampered by various complications over the years.

The RPP pointed out that the amendments made by the Nagaland State Government have reportedly contradicted the Principal Act of 2013, effectively paralyzing the body and undermining its ability to fulfill its intended purpose of fighting corruption.

In response, the RPP has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to challenge the amendments. The court has granted an interim stay on the implementation of these amendments for a period of four weeks, pending further hearings.

The party expressed gratitude to Advocate S. Borgohain and the legal team for their dedicated efforts in the case. The RPP also praised the court's timely intervention, which it believes will help preserve an independent and effective Lokayukta in Nagaland and ensure the protection of public interest.

The party espoused hope that the ongoing proceedings will restore the institution’s capacity to combat corruption in the state.
