Kohima, November 6 (MExN): Preparation is underway for the official launch of the Nagaland Super League (NSL) in December 2024, with a total prize pool of Rs 10 million up for grabs.
Attractive cash prizes of Rs 10 million have been earmarked for various categories, from the winner of the league to 8th place, the organisers informed in a media release.
The Government of Nagaland, the Nagaland Football Association, and the Nagaland Olympic Association are collaborating on the NSL.
The first edition of the NSL will feature 8 franchises, with matches taking place across two venues: the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima and the newly constructed football stadium at the Police Complex in Chümoukedima.
According to the release, each participating team will also receive a revenue share from the league, including ticket sales and sponsorship agreements.
Other prizes will include individual awards such as Player of the Match, Best Goalkeeper, Most Promising Player, Most Valuable Player, and the Golden Boot, among others, to recognise and celebrate outstanding performance throughout the league.
The event is being meticulously planned to emerge as one of the biggest sports events in Nagaland, with the aim of making it the most attractive football league in the region, the release maintained.
All NSL matches will be extensively covered across all forms of media, including live streaming on various platforms, to engage a wider audience, the release said.
The schedule of the league is being planned to culminate in a playoff format to ensure a more exciting conclusion, it claimed.
Meanwhile, the registration process for interested franchises and clubs is already underway, and the Governing Body of the NSL noted that a positive level of interest has already been shown by sports enthusiasts.
It further encouraged more interested clubs and parties to come forward for the registration process.
Among a host of other aims and objectives, the NSL aspires to create a sports and club culture in Nagaland, promote the cause of sports and games, provide opportunities for local talents to reach the highest levels, and contribute towards the unity of the people through the platform of sports and games, the release said.
Many other sectors, such as entrepreneurship, employment generation, and innovative start-ups, are expected to receive a boost through the launch of the league, it added.
To this end, the NSL organisers called upon all stakeholders and sports enthusiasts to collaborate and partner with the league to collectively promote Nagaland and advance the vision of empowering youth through sports.
