Rs 36.57 crore worth narcotics destroyed by Nagaland Police

Kohima, May 16 (MExN): The Drug Disposal Committee constituted for the Narcotics Police Station at Police Headquarters (PHQ), Nagaland, on May 16 destroyed seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances with an estimated market value of over Rs 36.57 crore at the designated dumping site in Perima.

The disposal, carried out strictly under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, followed the completion of all prescribed legal formalities and approvals from competent authorities and courts, stated an update issued by Office of the Superintendent of Police, Narcotics Police Station, PHQ, Nagaland Police, Kohima.

 

The SP said contraband from a total of 24 NDPS cases was destroyed, including approximately 8 kg 656 grams of heroin (19 cases) valued at around Rs 1.73 crore, about 31 kg 57 grams of opium (one case) worth Rs 15.28 lakh, and approximately 7 kg 929 grams of brown sugar (two cases) valued at Rs 1.58 crore. The total estimated market value of the destroyed substances was Rs 36,57,62,800.

The destruction process was attended by members of the Drug Disposal Committee, an Executive Magistrate, the Public Prosecutor, officials from the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), representatives from NGOs, Dobashis, and other concerned officials to ensure transparency and accountability.

 

Prior intimation regarding the exercise was given to all stakeholders, including the Perima Village Council. A No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the disposal was also obtained from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, adhering to environmental and safety protocols.

Nagaland Police has appealed to the public to continue extending cooperation by sharing credible information related to narcotics trafficking and drug abuse.
