Kiphire | October 8 : RTI Week was observed in Kiphire district yesterday. A seminar on the Right to Information Act, 2005 with the theme “RTI for good governance” for the district officers and local bodies was organized by the Kiphire District Administration at the DC’s conference hall. Schools, colleges and church leaders are invited to join the observation of RTI week from October 5 to 12.
The seminar commenced with a brief overview on the RTI Act by EAC (Dev) & APIO DC office Kiphire, Namang Sepong Chang where he said that the main objective of providing information is not only to promote transparency and accountability but also to ensure the participation of people in all matters related to governance.
This was followed by the screening of documentary on RTI. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Khriesi, Deputy CMO Kiphire, Kiritong Assistant District Coordinator, DMA-SSA Kiphire highlighted on importance of RTI as a means towards achieving transparent and good governance which will also be accountable to the people. He called upon the people to use RTI meaningfully for the greater interest of the general public. N.S Gangte, Assistant Branch Manager SBI Kiphire also spoke on the implementation of RTI in the banking sector and exemptions which would normally be applicable to the Bank.
SDO (C) & PIO DC office, Athrila S. speaking on the disclosure under RTI Act instructed all the officers present to effectively implement the Act by designating PIOs/APIOs and making it known to the general public so that they are not faced with any inconveniences while seeking any information under RTI Act. She also expressed concern over the lack of interest shown by many departments in the district. It may be noted that even after the publication of the information through the local dailies on October 3 only a few departments like the Medical, Police, Social Welfare, Education and the State Bank of India participated in the seminar.
Later an open discussion on the Right To Information Act was conducted with EAC Sitimi, Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo and SDPO Kiphire, Vekhrolo Koza as the resource persons during which queries related to RTI Act were explained.
