Dimapur, September 23 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), in collaboration with several government departments and a youth body, will organise a marathon on September 27 to raise awareness on air pollution and promote sustainable development.
The ‘Run 4 Green Dimapur Marathon’ will be held at the Urban Haat near the Old Dhansari Bridge, stated a DIPR report.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the District Administration, Dimapur Development Authority, Department of Environment and Climate Change, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, and the National Youth Climate Consortium.
Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Chief Executive Officer (CMO) DMC said that the event, which falls under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), aims to address Dimapur’s challenges as a “non-attainment city” in terms of air quality. Alongside the run, greening initiatives such as tree plantation and urban forestry will form a crucial part of the long-term programme to reduce particulate matter concentration in the city.
He also noted that, the marathon also aligns with key national and global initiatives, including the MY Bharat platform which empowers youth in nation-building and environmental protection, the National Youth Climate Consortium, focusing on urban heating and environmental challenges, and the Earth Alliance which is dedicated to sustainable development.
Partner NGOs including Team Better Dimapur, Can Youth, and Pro-Rural are extending their support to engage youth and communities in driving lasting change for a greener Dimapur.
