KOHIMA, MARCH 23 (MExN): The Youth Department of Sümi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK) organized an open marathon race on March 22 to mark the church’s centenary celebrations.

The event, flagged off by SBCK Associate Pastor Dr. L. Botoholi Yeptho, began at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, and concluded at the Science College Ground in Jotsoma. Dr. Yeptho led a Scripture reading, prayed for the participants, and officially launched the race.

A total of 237 runners—194 men and 43 women—competed in the marathon, with participants from across Nagaland and Manipur, including Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Noklak, Phek, Kigwema, Kohima, Zunheboto, and Imphal.

In the women’s category, Tsuchoi T from Noklak won first place, followed by Songmo P and Niansai T, both also from Noklak, in second and third place. In the men’s category, Wede T. Mero from Phek claimed victory, with Thotngacheirin Humphun Luiyi from Imphal finishing second and Shiangjiu T from Noklak placing third.

The winners in both categories received cash prizes—Rs 20,000 for first place, Rs 15,000 for second, and Rs 10,000 for third—along with certificates. Three lucky participants, Keneiguto Solo, Kavi Chophi, and Renapomo T. Tsanglao, were awarded premium supplement hampers sponsored by Protein Planet India.

The event was supported by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society, Mt. Olive College Kohima, Blood Donors Association Nagaland, and Protein Planet India.
