“It is an honour for me to be part of this cause,” said Whiso while talking to media persons here today at Reproductive Health & Family Planning Clinic (RHFPC) of FPAI, Nagaland Branch.

She said that gender based violence is something that is happening all around, yet, “we do not look at it.”

She said the sad thing is that even though one knows the sort of violence happening around “we do not know what to do. We do not know whom to consult. We just keep it inside.”

Whiso said that a time has come to educate women and thanked FPAI for its effort to empower women.

“I have seen, I have heard stories of women who have been abused by their husbands, their brothers and fathers,” she said.

It is our duty to report such violence going on, Whiso said and declared that she would educate women to help prevent violence through awareness and sensitization.

She appealed the Naga society to help her raise funds for a cause.
FPAI, Nagaland branch manager V. Vincent Belho said that FPA India is participating at Tata Mumbai Marathon to be held on 20th January 2019 to raise funds for its work on Gender Based Violence.

Accordingly, FPAI is robbing in different personalities including Ruopfüzhanuo Whiso who is a Youth Icon and she has readily agreed to participate as a Youth Leader to raise funds through her own Fund raising page to support the cause to break the silence on Gender Based Violence.
Belho said the FPAI have been working on women issues.

“It is not limiting family size but it is planning family so that you have money for education, money for good health, money for clothes, money for medical insurance.”

He expressed happiness that Whiso has joined FPAI for the cause.
FPAI stated that young people are the biggest resource a nation has; yet, many young people are unable to realize their full potential due to cultural and social barriers.

Lack of education and other opportunities result in violation of rights of young people, it stated.

The FPA India addresses several of these issues to ensure that young people are able to realize their sexual and reproductive rights.

Recent data shows a staggering 27 percent of young women experiencing physical violence.

Numerically it translates to nearly 10 crore Indian women! Sexual and Gender-based Violence’ (SGBV) is a fundamental human rights violation and a serious public health concern that affects everyone. It is rooted in gender inequalities and power imbalances between men and women.
By participating in the TATA Mumbai Marathon, 2019, FPA India aims to campaign against GBV under the #RUN4FP theme.

FPA India requested everyone to support for preventing gender based violence at the community level, provide access to care and support, and empower young women with life skills.

It stated that a donation of only Rs. 1830 will support one woman in accessing critical information and services related to GBV, gain essential skills helping her to break the cycle of violence, leading to improved health outcomes and realization of her rights and dignity.
