Rural Harvest on Wheels: 23 reefer trucks under FOCUS-IFAD Nagaland flagged off

Boosting market channels for agricultural produces in the state, Nagaland’s Agriculture Advisor Mhathung Yanthan flagged off 23 reefer truck (refrigerated vehicle) sponsored by FOCUS-IFAD Nagaland on February 28.

This refrigerated vehicle, coined as “Rural Harvest on Wheels” and “Bridging Farms to Markets,” was distributed to 16 FPOs and 7 other organizations for transportation of agricultural produces to the market.

Flagging off the vehicle at Nagaland’s Civil Secretariat ground, Kohima, Yanthan commended FOCUS-IFAD team for distribution of the vehicles, describing it as a remarkable achievement. It is one of the best things that have happened for the people of Nagaland, he said. He maintained that FOCUS- IFAD had done many good things for the farmers during its 6 years implementation period of the project in 608 villages.

The farmers have been benefited a lot in many ways, the advisor said. Now, these vehicles are going to be rolled out to the different parts of the state, he said adding that vegetables and fruits will be brought to the market through these vehicles.

Stating that facility comes with responsibility, he called upon the beneficiaries to run the vehicle efficiently and judiciously. He said that such vehicle should not be utilized for individual benefit but should be used for the benefit of the whole farming community. “Now, you are the link between the farmers and the market,” he said. He also urged the FPO to collectively work together and transform the market scenario and to achieve economic independence through the facility provided by the department.

Shanavas C, Commissioner & Secretary to Government of Nagaland and State Project Director, FOCUS-Nagaland urged the beneficiaries to use the vehicle well its purpose. Vote of thanks was proposed by Wezope Kenye, Agriculture Production Commissioner & Mission Director, FOCUS- Nagaland.

The beneficiaries of the refrigerated vehicle includes; Dzu FPO (Kohima), Japfu FPO (Kohima), Eco FPO (Phek), Murito FPO (Phek),Prato FPO (Phek), Mongoya FPO (Mokokchung), Telongjem FPO (Mokokchung), Hoichemshi FPO (Longleng), Chami Tukpu FPO (Longleng), Mongjam FPO (Mon), Tapi FPO (Mon), Zuvi FPO (Zunheboto), Eco Livestock FPO (Kiphire), Lio FPO (Wokha), Eli FPO (Wokha), Tapu FPO (Zunheboto), Chansu Organic Kiwi Producer Company Limited, Impact Her NGO (Wokha), New Akhwegwo VFG (Meluri), TJ Food Processing Enterprise (Mokokchung), Community Seed Bank Jakhama (Kohima), John 3:16 Society (Mon) and Thanamir Organic Producer Company Limited (Kiphire).
