Mon, July 12 (MExN): District Health Society, Mon launched World Population Day 2023 campaign and SAARTHI-awareness on wheels, at District Hospital (DH), Mon on July 11.

Deputy Commissioner, Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma IAS took the participants way back to the history of the population growth of the country, where one point of phase was known as ‘population explosion'. It became a major challenge for the Government and so the Government tried to control the population and not plan the family. Restrictive measures were implemented however; it was not successful in India. And so, the family planning policies were implemented, where people were not forced but were made aware, he added. Later, he thanked and appreciated the efforts taken by the block Asha Co-ordinators and the entire medical team in mobilizing the people about the advantages of FP. 

The DC Mon encouraged the department to achieve the desired goal of the campaign and that the benefits provided by the Government should be made accessible to the remotest part of the district. He also highlighted on the relation between the ‘Population & Development' and how the community contributes in the sustainable development of the country by the way one adopts and understand the importance of Family Planning.

Chief Medical Officer, Mon Dr Vizokholu Theyo elucidated on the theme message 'unleashing the power of gender equality: uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities'. She introduced SAARTHI-awareness on wheels under Mission Parivar Vikas, where wide awareness on basket of choices on Family Planning FP services will be disseminated to the communities and to let know about the campaign which will last till July 24.

She also mentioned how the country is accelerating in population growth and its impact. She briefly explained the activities and packages under FP programme in the district and encouraged all the staffs to give awareness and to take advantage of the facilities available. With these words, Dr Theyo persuaded all her staffs to come together on this World Population Day and to focus on finding a solution to numerous challenges which the district is facing and educate the people to create a better future for ourselves and for the future generations.

Earlier, the programme started with an innovation prayer by DH Chaplin David Konyak followed by a skit by Block Asha Co-ordinators on family planning choices.
