DIMAPUR, APRIL 6 (MExN): The Group E All India Sainik Schools National Games football championship began at Sainik School Punglwa with an opening ceremony on April 6, marking the start of a four-day event featuring five schools from the East Zone.
Participating institutions include Sainik School Goalpara, Sainik School Imphal, Sainik School Chhingchhip, Sainik School East Siang and the host school.
Principal of Sainik School Punglwa, Smita Misra, attended the programme as the chief guest and spoke on the importance of such events in promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy competition among students. She stated that the games reflect the values of dedication, hard work and unity upheld by Sainik Schools.
The ceremony featured a drill display by contingents of the participating schools, followed by an oath-taking and the formal declaration of the championship.
In the opening match, host Sainik School Punglwa defeated Sainik School Chhingchhip 3–2.
The championship includes competitions in the U-17 and U-15 categories for boys and U-17 for girls, and forms the first leg of the Group E Sainik Schools National Games. The event will conclude after four days with teams competing for top honours.
