DIMAPUR (MExN): A picture news was carried out by this paper with regard to this story in question, to highlight the inconveniences face dby the public. Th1e previous DC, Hekali Zhimomi had passed an order directing all sand depots situated next to highways or roads be barricaded so as to prevent the sand from becoming a hazard to the motorists and pedestrians.

With the windy season now upon the city, it remains to be seen whether this order will be implemented with a sense of purpose by the present DC KN Ngullie.

While visiting some of the sand-depots at Purana Bazar, this reporter noticed that with Dimapur experiencing one of the windiest days today, a lot of motorists especially those driving two wheelers were greatly hampered and visually discomfited because of the sand which was blown onto the road by the wind.

It must be mentioned that some of the sand depots have put up sorry excuses for for not erecting barricades. The excuses do not serve any practical purpose in preventing the sand from being blown onto the road.

Speaking to an owner of a sand depot, this reporter learnt that with Purana Bazar falling under the jurisdiction of Chumukedima, checkings were not done by the officials concerned.

In the meantime, the public of Dimapur are the silent sufferers of the apathy on the part of the unscrupulous traders at one hand and the disconcerned officials at the other.
