Tuensang, October 16 (MExN): Sao Chang College, Tuensang, organised a one-day training programme on solid waste management and waste segregation at source to promote environmental awareness and responsible waste disposal practices.
The programme was jointly organised by the college's Green Initiative Committee and the Department of Environmental Studies (EVS). Rangbenkumla Chang served as the resource person and trained 21 students and five faculty members.
The training emphasised household waste management, particularly the importance of segregating waste at source. Participants learned to distinguish between wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and special care waste to ensure proper handling and disposal.
The session also highlighted how responsible waste management can reduce environmental pollution and contribute to healthier surroundings.
The resource person introduced the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), which came into force on April 1, 2026. Participants were encouraged to adopt proper waste segregation practices at home and spread awareness among their families and communities.
The programme concluded with all 21 students and five faculty members taking a pledge to practise waste segregation, dispose of waste responsibly and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.
The initiative aimed to encourage active student participation in sustainable waste management and strengthen environmental responsibility within the college and the wider community, contributing towards a cleaner and healthier Nagaland.
