Satellite OST inaugurated in Chessore

Shamator, August 23 (MExN): A Satellite Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre was inaugurated at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Chessore town, Shamator District, on August 23. 

The centre was launched by K. Tsusola, Associate Pastor Women of the Chessore Town Baptist Church, stated a DIPR report.

In his address, Dr Kumrimong Yimchunger, Medical Officer of Chessore PHC, emphasised that opium addiction is primarily a mental health issue rather than a physical dependency. He called for a collective effort to build a supportive and non-judgmental society that offers help to those struggling with addiction.

Dr Yimchunger expressed gratitude to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Tuensang for establishing the centre in a long-neglected area. He also encouraged the people of Chessore Block to make the best use of the OST centre and assured that his team and staffs are ready to help and serve at any given point of time for the upliftment of the society and the addicted.

Dr Senilo Magh, Psychiatrist and Nodal Officer for OST at District Hospital Tuensang, spoke on the importance of assisting individuals to overcome addiction challenges.

Short addresses were also delivered by Zhelo, Village Council Chairman of Chessore; Lakiumong, Head DB of Chessore Town; and Chuba, President of the Chessore Town Public Forum.

The programme featured a welcome address by Chongshen C Chang, DPO DAPCU Tuensang, and concluded with a vote of thanks from Chongtin Sumao, Lab Technician at PHC Chessore.
