DIMAPUR, APRIL 20 (MExN): The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) today stated that "adoption of non-local individuals within the jurisdiction of Southern Angami is strictly prohibited with effect from May, 2026 for maintaining the integrity and well-being of indigenous native people.” A notice from the SAYO said that this was a consequence of the October 25, 2025 murder of a 22 year old woman in Kohima.
“Effective immediately, no individual or family within the jurisdiction is permitted to adopt any non-local individuals,” the SAYO stated. It cautioned that any person or entity found to be in violation of this directive will face strict penalties which may include “exile from his/her village; cancellation/revocation of Schedule Tribe and Indigenous Inhabitants Certificates of the violator; bear the risks of unforeseen and unanticipated incidents; and other actions deemed appropriate by the organization.”
“In case of concealment and detected later, the avail Schedule Tribe and Indigenous Inhabitants Certificates of the adopted person as well as the adopting parents will be cancelled/revoked with immediate effect as on the date of detection,” the SAYO informed.
It added that the SAYO would offer no support to any individual in the future in failure to adhere to the established decision.
