Kohima, August 27 (MExN): A one-day workshop on tour guiding was organised by Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland at P. Khel Panchayat Hall, Viswema on August 27.
The workshop, aimed at equipping local youth and stakeholders with professional skills in tour guiding, brought together experts and resource persons from various fields of tourism, adventure, and emergency response.
Moatemsu Sangtam, Assistant Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland, gave the introduction, highlighting the importance of trained tour guides in promoting responsible and sustainable tourism in the state.
During technical sessions, Neikedolie Hiekha, Proprietor Naga BIVOUAC and former Ex-Chairman, Ecotourism Management Committee, Khonoma talked on “ Principles of Tour Guiding” while Kholie Dolf, MC Member IRCSN & Master Trainer in First Aid, St. John Ambulance of India spoke on “First Aid/Emergency Response.”
Ruokuovikho Chale, President, Nagaland Association for Adventure Mountaineering & Education talked “Cultural Sensitivity and Destination Knowledge” while Deepak Shrivasta, Principal, State Institute of Hotel Management Dimapur (SIHMD) spoke on awareness on various educational and career opportunities at their Institute.
A significant highlight of the program was the formal launching of the Southern Angami Tourist Guide Council, declared by Zasitolie Beio, President SAYO.
An interactive session was also held, giving participants the opportunity to engage with the resource persons.
The workshop reflected the growing emphasis on tourism as a key sector for sustainable livelihood in Nagaland and reaffirmed the commitment of SAYO and the Department of Tourism to empower local communities with the skills required to guide and host visitors with professionalism and cultural pride.
Earlier, Teisovi Thorie, Finance Secretary SAYO, led the session while Thepfuruko Valeo, Member Secretary, Action Committee SAYO, delivered welcome address.
The programme concluded with remarks from Abigael Solo, Tourist Officer, Department of Tourism.
